Late Birthday Celebration

James, Lila and Jon

James with his grandmother
Step-grandpa Mikey
The gathering for James One's first birthday was delayed a few days. Lila was finishing up her summer calculus class. We met on a VERY hot day in downtown Hillsborough for lunch at LaPlace, a New Orleans style eatery on the main drag. Pretty good, although the menu was a little heavy on the meat. I mean they grind their own sausage in the basement. We stopped in at the Eno Gallery so I could check out the competition. I have to say there are some extremely talented artists in the area. I was humbled. After lunch we headed to Greensboro with a quick stop at the Alamance Arts Center for the Leonard Nimoy photography exhibit. He was a wonderful photographer--who knew?! Then on to see Mal. We ate AGAIN at Pho. Double Down, as Louis C.K. calls it. I was still full from lunch so just had an appetizer. Mal is working on a graphic novel with his friend, Kellin. He does the writing and Kellin is doing the art. We ran into an intense thunderstorm on the way home. Typical summer weather. All in all--a good day.

Trying out a new hair style

My daughter is an expert hair stylist, but you know, you can only do so much with what you've got to work with. I applaud her efforts. I'm thinking this situation actually calls for radical plastic surgery. I should contact Bruce Jenner's surgeon. All joking aside, I'm very pleased with the new doo. It's easier to deal with and will make the morning routine a little less painful. The less time spent in front of the bathroom mirror the better!

Summer is here!

Maka and Sammie praying for rain and cooler weather.
Yesterday I took the day off and went to visit my daughter and sweet little grandbaby. It was 103 degrees in Fayetteville. And it's not even summer yet! Don't tell ME there is no such thing as global warming. I just hope this early warm up is not a sign of how the rest of the summer is going to be. My sources tell me this little pre-summer heat wave is supposed to last at least 2 weeks. Lord help us and thank GOD for air-conditioning. I am really hating the fact that I have a black car right now. I didn't want to get black but I was in a hurry and that's all they had--long, boring story, I will spare you the details. So, anyWHO, I had a lovely visit with the family. I took James his birthday present, which Bertie assembled. He liked the ball pit. The slide was not very interesting, not yet anyways. Bertie also cut my hair. YAY. I was sick of looking like an old hag. I may BE an old hag, but I don't have to look like one.

Gig

Mike's new band, Emerson Boozer, playing at the Carrboro Farmer's Market June 10. It was a fun time, although a little too hot and humid for my tastes. I tend to shut down when the temperature goes over 72 degrees. I had already spent the entire afternoon at a Bulls game in Durham, so I was thoroughly dehydrated by the time the band came on.

May Art Swap

I joined the Art Swap group on Jennibellie. May's challenge was to create a banner. Each person creates something based on the topic for the month and sends it to their partner. The swap partners are randomly chosen. My partner lives in Australia! This was so much fun. I am looking forward to seeing what the swap is for June.
My banner. Watercolor and mixed media on watercolor paper.

Harriet's banner. Mixed media and paper beads.
