Live long and prosper

Mr. Spock
Leonard Nimoy, age 83, died today. I'm very saddened by this. He was a huge part of my childhood. I've been a Star Trek fan since the beginning. I remember building the Enterprise in the front yard with my friend, Carol, back in the 3rd or 4th grade. It was actually just a cleared out area in the desert with a sort of floor plan of the Enterprise. And here we are 50 years later and I still watch the old episodes from time to time. My goodness, it makes me feel kind of old!

Weather Update

The predicted snow did come. Wednesday evening it started with some sleet and then changed over to snow later on. We got over 6 inches. Last night it froze so now there is a layer of ice on top of the snow. Looks like I'll be spending the day stuck inside again. We had some excitement Wednesday when Early cut his foot and we had to make a trip to the emergency vet office in Cary. Driving home with an injured dog in the blinding snow storm was NO FUN. And since that was not quite stressful enough, we had to almost run out of gas as well.

Weekly Tuesday Snow Storm

Snow again? This is bizarre. We usually only get one snow per winter and now we've had 2 in one week. And another big storm coming tonight.

Cousins

James Two and James One
Bertie drove up from Ft. Bragg yesterday with baby James and the dogs. We left the dogs with Miguel and then went to Mebane to see Jon, Lila and the other James. The little guys were interested but not exactly sure what to make of each other. We went to Brixx for some pizza and had some excitement when the waitress dumped ice water on James One's head. He was surprised but never made a peep. What a trouper!! We got some free appetizers for our trouble. BTW, I can highly recommend the pear, gorgonzola, walnut pizza. Amazing! Anyhow, my boys are almost 8 and 9 months old now. Time flies. They each have 2 bottom teeth and both are trying very hard to walk. The moms have been busy baby-proofing their respective homes. It just doesn't get any better than this. Life is good.

Winter Storm

Sophie and Early scavenging for bird seed.
Crazy weather week we're having. Got some ice then a little snow. Mike was thrilled to pieces to be able to use that 4-wheel drive vehicle. The doggies were not quite as happy about the ice and snow. I guess they don't like cold feet, but who does?! It is supposed to get down to ZERO tonight. I am not overly concerned as long as I have running water and electricity. If the heat goes out I'm going to pack up all the animals and go to a hotel.

Hard at work

It's ME. On the job, keeping the world safe for democracy.
I was invited to the NC Veteran's Empowerment Consortium hosted by BCBSNC. I belong to a veteran's employee network here at the Blue and we occasionally get to unchain ourselves from our desks and go find out what other companies and groups are doing to support veterans and their families in the community. We meet lots of interesting people and usually get a free lunch. I try to never turn down a free meal.

The Nicholson Fleet

I call her Black Beauty
It looks like a used car lot out here. I decided to give the little Yaris to Jon because he was in serious need of some wheels and I went and got myself a new car. Since we had that nice bit of luck with Mike's car, I didn't have to divert all my funds into replacing his ride. I got a Hyundai Sonata because our mechanic, Jack Getz, said it was a good buy. I trust him with my life. He would never steer us wrong. Such a great guy. I really didn't want a black car (too hot in the summer) but it's what was available. And I don't actually care that much--I'm just not into cars. What I DO like is the trial subscription to Sirius XM radio. Awesome! After I spent an hour reading the manual I figured out how to put it on the 70s channel. I am reliving my youth. It's like being in high school all over again, only with out the crippling shyness and negative self-esteem.
